Deep-tissue Massage

This massage technique uses slower, more forceful strokes to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, commonly to help with muscle damage from injuries & is frequently used to rehabilitate sports injuries. Deep-tissue massage therapy is often recommended for people who are recovering from surgery. Scar tissue is often associated with ongoing pain and stiffness, so deep-tissue massage can improve these symptoms. Over time, this therapy can help break up and eventually erase scar tissue in the body by improving lymphatic circulation and drainage to improve flexibility and range of motion in the affected area. Studies have shown it to be more effective and affordable for relieving chronic pain than conventional medical remedies. It does this by helping alleviate muscle tension, loosening the tight tissue clusters, and reducing the inflammation that is often a side effect of chronic pain. Deep-tissue massage can help increase the body's production of serotonin, the hormone that promotes happiness and good feelings.

Sports Massage

Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons. It is also good for people with chronic pain or restricted range of motion.
There are four types of sports massages:
• Pre-event sports massage -- a short, stimulating massage 15 - 45 minutes before the event. It is directed toward the parts of the body that will be involved in the exertion.
• Post-event sports massage -- given within an hour or two of the event, to normalize the body's tissues.
• Restorative sports massage -- given during training to allow the athlete to train harder and with less injury.
• Rehabilitative sports massage -- aimed at alleviating pain due to injury and returning the body to health.

Cupping

Cupping is much like the inverse of massage - rather than applying pressure to muscles, it uses gentle pressure to pull them upward.
I combine cupping with my massage in one treatment, but it can also be used alone. The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system (which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure). Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and even cellulite. Cupping is one of the best deep-tissue therapies available. It is thought to affect tissues up to four inches deep from the external skin. Toxins can be released, blockages can be cleared, and veins and arteries can be refreshed within these four inches of affected materials.

Swedish Massage

This is a gentle form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration and tapping to help relax and energize you. As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension. A study conducted by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and published in The New York Times, found that people who received a 45-minute Swedish massage experienced significant decreases in levels of the stress hormone cortisol and increases in the number of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are part of the immune system. Resulting in a boost in the immune cells that may help fight colds and the flu.

Prenatal Massage

Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. Massage therapy addresses different needs through varying techniques, one of which is called Swedish Massage, which aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. PNF (postural neuromuscular facilitation) or strain counter strain, are incorporated as well, which helps in realigning hips and sacrum to regain comfort in low back and hips. The evidence points strongly to maternal and newborn health benefits when therapeutic massage is incorporated into regular prenatal care. Women with normal, low-risk pregnancies can benefit greatly from the variety of massage techniques. However, women in high-risk pregnancies should consult their doctor or midwife before beginning any massage therapy programs. Intra-Oral

I am licensed in Intra-Oral massage and this therapeutic TMJ massage may be right for you. If you have been diagnosed with TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction) or have pain in the jaw, by the ears, forehead, back of the head, neck and/or shoulders. Treatment consists of massage to the neck, shoulder, facial, and muscles of the mouth. I will focus treatment on your chewing muscles, eliminating any trigger points, and pain referral areas by releasing tension in the fascia around the jaw, neck, head and face. This treatment also includes intraoral massage to the masseter muscles to reduce the stress it can put on the jaw and temporomandibular joints. Pain is frequently aggravated by clenching and/or grinding of the teeth, causing damage to the joints due to disease, arthritis or trauma to the face.
